The Hokianga Country Music Club Inc. presents..

2000 - The Hokianga Country Rock Festival was initiated by a group of locals, most of whom were members of the Hokianga Country Music club. The group formed a festival committee to plan this event. The festival was held three months later in the second weekend of September.
Fourteen bands from around the North played at different times at different venues over the weekend. The three festival venues were Omapere Tourist Hotel, Opononi Resort Hotel and the Masonic Hotel in Rawene. A Courtesy van shuttle service between venues was provided for festival goers who wanted to see bands perform at other venues, as well this service promoted the 'Drive Safe ' campaign.
For a weekend of country music the cost of the Festival ticket was $15.00.
Everyone agreed that the Hokianga Country Rock Festival was a real success thanks went to all the hard work of the committee and many others in the community who contributed to its success.
The bands had a great time and they looked forward to being invited to the next festival.
2001 - 2007 In 2001 the Hokianga Country Music Club committee decided to hold another country music festival and changed the name of the festival from the Hokianga Country Rock Festival to the Hokianga Country Music Festival. After this festival the club decided this event was to be an annual one and continued each year to organise a festival that was to be bigger and more popular than the previous one.
From 2001 to 2005 on average 20-24 bands played over three venues, Copthorne Resort Hokianga (was Omapere Tourist Hotel), Opononi Hotel, Masonic Hotel in Rawene. In 2006 a fourth venue, the Hokianga Harbour Hotel in Kohukohu was added to the festival circuit.
In 2006 & 2007 the Opononi Area School Hall was opened to Festival goers who wanted to sing on stage. Auckland based band Take It Back backed these talented singers (festival goers) and the venue provided and ideal linedancing floor for many linedancers.
Courtesy Transport between all festival venues has continued every year and has always been a popular and well used service.
Each festival has invited some new performers along to share their music and be part of our Hokianga experience. Quite a few of our popular bands have been part of the festival since 2001.
Putting together a festival this size takes a lot of time, money, preparation and commitment from many. Every year we manage to pull off another festival SUCCESS.
In 2008 will be the club's ninth annual Hokianga Country Music Festival. See you there!
2009 Festival - our 10th Festival - another successful weekend,celebrations all round.
